I’m so excited to give you a tour of our little girl’s (Chloe) nursery! One of the fun parts of pregnancy was dreaming up a beautiful space for our bundle of joy. I wanted the room to feel comfortable, inviting, practical and inspired for the tiny human we were about to bring into the world.
We live just outside of Fredericton, New Brunswick and our property is surrounded by nature which was the inspiration for a woodland theme. I also wanted a gender neutral nursery, and one that would be easy to grow with her.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure what all I needed in a nursery aside from a crib and changing table (new mom here!). It was rather overwhelming starting from scratch. So I started planning on Pinterest, you can check out my board.
I chose a nice neutral warm grey (Behr’s Dolphin Fin) for the walls and used pops of colours in the artworks and textiles.
We bought the crib second hand, painted it with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White and distressed it. Chops to Randy for assembling it multiple times. Behind the crib is one of my favourite features in the room, her birch tree wall that we got from Etsy.
The artworks and prints were inspired from our love of travel and adventure which we hope to foster in her.
We originally had the gallery wall over her changing table but she kept kicking things off the wall! Truth be told, a friend did warn us about it but I was like “Not our baby, no she wouldn’t do that!”, not to mention I really didn’t want to rehang everything. But alas, we moved it eventually. Lesson learned.
The dresser was also bought second hand. I stained the top a dark walnut and painted the body ASCP Duck Egg Blue.
My favourite are the owl knobs we got from Room To Remember, it’s all about the little details! The dresser also functions to store clothes, crib sheets, medicines and various items. It was a fun project to refinish and I know Chloe will use it for many years to come.
We installed a shelf above the changing table to store her cloth diapers which made for easy nappy changes (seriously, how cute are these nappies?). I love the rustic industrial design of the shelf and it was so easy to install – check out The Little Barn Co for some unique handmade wood decor.
We got the Ikea Kallax shelf to use for additional storage. You can never get enough storage!
I absolutely LOVE this canvas print of Chloe from our friends at Enchanted Hill Photography who also did our newborn photography.
You’re probably wondering where is the glider? Well, we had one but it was challenging fitting it in the space without it kinda in the way so we moved it into the living room. Truth be told I found it wasn’t comfortable for long nursing sessions (and there were many of them!) and I eventually just ended up using our LazyBoy recliner instead.
I love this wool handmade blanket that we got from our baby shower. I use it every night for her bedtime feed which we do on the bed.
Chloe slept in our room in a bassinet in the first few months before we transitioned her into her crib. Nowadays, she takes great joy in standing up in her crib (one of her newfound skills) and has become quite the beaver, hence the crib rail covers.
I really love how the room turned out. I think it’s a room that will grow with her and evolve as our needs change. Most importantly, it was a room made with lots of love.
